Export of Iranian saffron with foreign brand

Khamezar said: “The total production of saffron in the country is 400 tons per year, and if the value of each kilogram of saffron is worth an average of 1,500 dollars, it is possible to prevent Afghanistan from selling Iranian saffron under its own name in the markets by allocating 600 million dollars for the guaranteed purchase of the country’s saffron. to offer globally or introduce the UAE as the country of saffron. “Now Iranian saffron is exported from Iran to India with a heavy tariff, but Afghanistan sells this product to India with a zero tariff.”

Iran’s potential in saffron production

The executive of the Medicinal Plant Project of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture said: The area under saffron cultivation is 122 thousand hectares, so there is a potential to produce at least 500 tons in the country.
Hossein Zainli said according to the report of Ekhtaz News, quoting from the Young Journalists Club, “According to the statistics, the area under saffron cultivation is 122,000 hectares, so on average, there is a potential to produce at least 500 tons of the product.”

According to him, during the last 2 years drought and frosts caused the production to reach 390 tons.

Zainli continued: Considering the favorable climatic conditions and rainfall, it is estimated that this year’s minimum production will exceed 450 tons, therefore, we advise farmers to supply saffron within 2-3 months before the harvest season. so that exporters can have attractive exports using this situation.

A member of the National Saffron Council said

According to the announcement of the rural cooperative on June 8, more than 6 thousand kilograms of exported saffron will be offered in the commodity exchange, which will lead to the balance of the domestic market and the real price of saffron.

Stating that Iran ranks first in the world in terms of the level of cultivation and production, the manager of the Medicinal Plants Project said: According to last year’s statistics, 221 tons of saffron with a value of 227 million dollars were exported to the target markets.
